Heresy Design:
For the Outcasts, By the Outcasts
Heresy Design may be a name you haven’t heard before, but the brains behind the company are well-known throughout the industry, and definitely known by us here at the shop.
They may be outcasts of their previous companies, but after a short hiatus, they’re back and better than ever. Here’s their first limited edition sticker that was available at our Annual Customer Appreciation BBQ… Needless to say, this crew understood the assignment!
- Dean Sylvester has been in the firearms industry for over 18 years, founded Primary Weapons Systems and has designed products for PWS, Brownell’s, GemTech, BPI and others. Dean is handling all product design and engineering for Heresy Design. We met Dean 6 years ago when we moved the shop to Boise and got a tour of the PWS manufacturing facility. We’ve worked close with him since then, and when he sold PWS back in 2021, we made sure to keep in touch with him- we knew that wasn’t the last we would hear of him!
- Derek Hand started working in the firearms industry in 2010 with a focus on Law Enforcement and Government sales. In 2019, Derek moved to Steyr Arms® holding multiple positions within the US division including Chief of Operations. Derek will be managing all business development and sales for Heresy Design.
- Brittany Sylvester, who happens to be married to the Head Ginger In Charge (Dean), was our account manager and point of contact at PWS since we started carrying that brand. She spent a lot of time in our shop making sure we knew the ins and outs of the product line and was vital in getting our Stockpile branded lowers manufactured. Brittany has been in the industry going on 8 years, and not only handles the procurement and marketing for Heresy Design, but also helps us out with our website and marketing efforts here at Stockpile Defense.
So now you know who’s behind the brand, you’re probably wondering what they’re doing now.
The first two retail products under the Heresy Design brand are conversion kits for the Steyr AUG platform:
-
-
- 9MM Conversion Kit (barrel, gas block assembly, rails, bolt, magazine, magazine insert)
- .300BLK (barrel, gas block assembly, rails)
-
While there are a LOT of additional products still going through their R&D process, these two are pretty impressive to say the least. Knowing Dean, and his ability to design products like a mad scientist, we have extremely high expectations, and so far, we’re impressed. We can’t wait to start testing these and will definitely do a follow up blog post once we have some time behind the trigger.
The AUG platform has been around for decades, and there are countless owners in the USA, so we expect these to be extremely popular with that crowd, but we’re curious to see how these new products impact the new market for the AUG. What do you think? Will you consider buying an AUG when these conversion kits are on our shelves?
